ADDRESS: Carrs Lane Counselling Centre Ltd.,
Carrs Lane,
Birmingham B4 7SX
DIRECTIONS: If you stand in front of M&S, near the Bull Ring, and look to your left you'll see a road which goes down the left side of M&S, towards the back of the store and to the bus stops. That is Carrs Lane. At the bottom of Carrs Lane, almost opposite Moor Street Station, you will see Carrs Lane Church. Walk around the back of the church, through the car park, towards the cafe entrance and you'll see our door next to the cafe entrance.
If you think you'd like to come to Carrs Lane for counselling then the first thing to do is to telephone our administrator. You will be asked for some basic information including your name (you only need to give your first name if you prefer) and a contact telephone number. The administrator will also ask you if you'd like a daytime or an evening appointment. You will then be put onto our waiting list until a counsellor becomes available. The waiting time for your first appointment can be as long as four or five weeks at busy periods during the year. You will be called as soon as possible.
Because of confidentiality issues you will need to speak to the centre yourself. We won't discuss you or your appointments with a third party. This includes parents, spouses, GP's, social workers and friends.
The centre makes a small charge for counselling.
Clients who are in employment are asked to donate £10 per session
Clients not currently employed are asked to donate £5 per session
If this is difficult for you, please tell the administrator when you call. We do not turn people away for financial reasons.
WHAT IS CARRS LANE COUNSELLING CENTRE LTD?
Carrs Lane Counselling Centre Ltd. is a charitable organisation run on a voluntary basis.
The organisation was formed thirty-five years ago.
Originally Carrs Lane was a drop-in centre for the people of Birmingham to use when they needed additional support or found themselves at difficult times in their lives.
Today the Centre seeks to provide a low-cost service to adults over the age of 18.
We use a person-centred, non-judgmental approach to our work. This encourages clients to explore, in confidence, the options available to them and so begin to make decisions which will enable them to work towards living in a more satisfactory way.
Our fully-trained counsellors are supported by a system of mentoring and supervision and a management structure that ensures all aspects of the service meet the standards required by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
We recognise the need to maintain professional development within the counselling centre and to monitor and implement changes in legislation.
Carrs Lane Counselling Centre Ltd. recognises difference and diversity in the community and implements an equal opportunities policy.
Currently our counsellors are working with clients on a wide variety of issues which include:
BEREAVEMENT - DEPRESSION - SEXUAL MATTERS - LOSS
RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGES - ABUSE, MENTAL/PHYSICAL/VERBAL
ANXIETY - PANIC ATTACKS - ANGER - LOW SELF-ESTEEM
Carrs Lane aims to provide a safe, secure enviroment where clients can gain an understanding of the challenges they face and the emotional distress they may be experiencing.
The centre runs a training course twice yearly. These courses are entitled: "The Application of Counselling Skills in Practice". The courses are open to anyone interested in counselling. Some people, on completion of the course, may wish to apply to work as a volunteer counsellor at Carrs Lane.
We also supply quality-assured training to outside agencies.
If you're interested in our training please contact the centre for further details and the date of the next course.
The service that Carrs Lane provides costs in the region of £40,000 per annum.
These funds are raised primarily from donations made by our clients and through corporate and trust funding.
If you feel that you would like to help us with raising funds, or in any other way, please contact: The Centre Manager, on 0121-643-6363.
